Session 1 - July 10th
Develop your observation drawing skills and simplify the natural world. Translate the complexities of nature into abstractions of a tree shape and form, find the patterns in shrubbery and foliage, the variety of colour in flowers. Pull it all together into a composition, using leading lines and the division of space within a landscape scene.
This course includes an introduction to the following skills and techniques for watercolour sketching Plein Air
Observational drawing
Explore composition: Thumbnail drawing sketch compositions of the landscape surroundings
Tonal value: Translate drawing to monochromatic studies
Working with colour: Using key attributes of colour appearance - determine hue, saturation and value in your work
Painting techniques: Washes, glazing, drybrushing, wet-in-wet and a variety of experimental ways to apply paint
Travel light: Bring your travel box-set of watercolours, watercolour paper sketchbook, water brushes, bull clips to hold sketchbook paper and a fold away chair. Supply details on registration.
